Helsinki Testbed is fixed duration non-profit research project. Involved data products are free from service charges. This is based on project requirement for demonstration of meteorological measurement systems and technology integration, which in turn is one of the factors in project funding. However, users must note that data transfer fees will be charged by cellular carrier, and these are dependent on users plan. Standard Helsinki Testbed policies apply to mobile data products.
Weather conditions are measured in real-time. The data is sent to a centralized database over GPRS. The following methods of obtaining mobile products are available.
WAP based products can be browsed assuming that operator dependent WAP configurations are set right. Please contact your service provider for correct settings. WAP-service can be used with the following operators: Sonera, Elisa, Tele Finland, Saunalahti, Armas, Finnet COM, and DNA.
To use the service:Follow the link http://wap.weatherproof.fi/testbed/wap.php in your phone's web browser, and select the product of your choice. To ease the use of a product, you may add the link in your phone bookmarks.
Temperature product example is shown in the following figure. Red values are temperatures in Celsius at a given time (black text). In this example dated July 29th 2005, one may note consistently cooler temperatures in sea than in land surface. In real application, several consecutive images are animated. Other products include relative humidity, wind and rain data in southern Finland area as well as observations in Helsinki city.
